Finding the right choice of sport in your neighborhood is a challenge which we addressed by developing a location based sports event planner app that connects the players to discover and organize sporting events. The solution was developed for a US based digital enterprise and was built using PhoneGap and CakePHP technologies.
Objective
In today’s digitally connected world, there are instances where we still face difficulties in finding the right sporting event. We are often unaware about the events happening in our locality. Simplified communication or awareness is one of hardest part for organizing a local sporting event. Even though there are sport groups on various social networking platforms, we still miss the chance to participate in a sporting event of our choice. No one wants emails from 10 different people about the event or receive group text messages which are easy to miss. Its time consuming to browse through different websites to know if a sports event has been delayed or called off.
Wouldn’t it be good if all sport event management & team communications were available via one app? Our client wanted to address this problem by developing a mobile solution which will allow players to discover and organize nearby sporting events with the provision to invite friends with ease, and RSVP. The mobile solution must be intuitive to increase user engagement and notify users with the upcoming events based on their interest of sport.

Approach
Rishabh Software, a cross platform development company, conducted an extensive research to implement location based event creation & user notification functionalities in the custom developed sports event planning solution. One of the key challenge faced while developing the solution was catering to multiple smartphones and tablets. The mobile first approach was focused on creating a responsive user-facing mobile interface and a backend administrator portal to manage the users & events. The overall plan was to deliver a modern, responsive technology product showcasing user experience and increase in user adoption.

PhoneGap mobile development was used for generating responsive web & mobile interface and CakePHP was used to create the backend infrastructure. The team used location based service app and social media integrations to simplify communication in the PhoneGap & PHP based solution. Additional features like user registration, user management and real-time event notifications were delivered in the mobile front end. Many event administrators were able to plan events, engage audiences and get visibility about the people joining the event. The local sports planning app was built using PhoneGap with PHP in a planned phase manner, starting with a “Proof of Concept” to test and validate market acceptance of the proposed concept to developing the final cross platform mobile solution.
